Edge Of Perfection: Stafford SK Mod Win Puts Keith Rocco One Victory From NASCAR National Championship

August 13th, 2010

STAFFORD – What was just a joke made in jest last year by Keith Rocco is seemingly on the cusp of becoming stunning reality.

Keith Rocco Eyes 7-17-10.jpgIn 2007, 2008 and 2009 Rocco looked late in each season to be one of the top contenders to win the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series national championship. Each year his chances dissolved in the final weeks of the season.

Under the Whelen All-American Series national points system drivers in the premier division at short tracks across the country are ranked based on their 18 best finishes of the season to figure out a national champion. Eighteen victories for a driver in full fields (at least 20 cars) represents a perfect season.

Rocco went from third to first on a restart with two laps remaining Saturday for his 17th SK Modified win of the season between Waterford, Stafford Motor Speedway and Thompson International Speedway. Saturday’s victory was his first in an SK Modified since July 3.

July 30th, 2010

STAFFORD – For race teams, finding speed on the racetrack is the paramount goal, but sometimes it seems that finding loopholes and gray areas in the rulebook comes up a very close second against the search for speed.

Keith Rocco Eyes 7-17-10.jpgAnd it seems the brewing battle between Thompson International Speedway race officials and NASCAR Whelen All-American Series national points leader involves just that dancing in the gray of rulebook wordings.
