August 11th, 2010

LOUDON, N.H. – It will still be a twin bill for Sprint Cup Series events at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in 2011.

NHMS Sign.jpgAfter much negative speculation over recent months concerning the future of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, the track’s executive vice president and general manager Jerry Gappens confirmed Tuesday that no events are being taken off the schedule at the facility.

Gappens announced Tuesday that New Hampshire Motor Speedway will once again host two NASCAR Sprint Cup Series events in 2011.

Changed Weekends Likely For Both New Hampshire Motor Speedway Sprint Cup Events In 2011

August 11th, 2010

New Hampshire Motor Speedway officials have scheduled a press conference for this afternoon with the 2011 schedule at the track being the topic at hand.

Sprint Cup Series.jpgSo what will be going on at the track?

It seems the most likely scenario that will be laid out is a change back to what used to be for the track’s annual summer Sprint Cup Series weekend and a one-week change for the track’s fall event.

New Hampshire Motor Speedway officials are expected to announce that the track’s usual late June event will move to a mid-July date. The Lenox Industrial Tools 301 went from a mid-July race to a late June event (and once early July event) in 2007.

Getting Energized: Kasey Kahne Headed To Red Bull Racing For One Year Before Moving To Hendrick Motorsports

August 10th, 2010

Red Bull Racing officials announced Tuesday that Kasey Kahne will drive for their Sprint Cup Series team for the 2011 season.

10 Kasey Kahne.jpgThe announcement officially ended much speculation about where the current Richard Petty Motorsports driver would end up before heading to Hendrick Motorsports for the 2012 season.

Kahne, 30, signed a deal in April to drive for Hendrick Motorsports, despite the fact that the Hendrick Sprint Cup Series stable is already full with Jimmie Johnson, Jeff Gordon, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Mark Martin competing for the organization.

NASCAR limits teams to no more than four Sprint Cup Series teams.

Talkative Kurt Busch Calls Hendrick Motorsports Drivers The “Pretty Boys” Of The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series

August 6th, 2010

Last Sunday, after getting wrecked by Hendrick Motorsports driver Jimmie Johnson in the Sprint Cup Series event at Pocono Raceway, it was a quite terse Kurt Busch who met with the media after the incident.

10 Kurt Busch.jpgBusch was quite a bit more animated Friday at Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International when talking about the brewing feud between himself and Johnson and Johnson’s Hendrick Motorsports teammates.

“The guys at Hendrick are pretty boys and they get on People Magazine covers and that’s their job,” Busch said during a press conference at Watkins Glen. “My job is to go out and race cars and that’s what I focus on. I like to race the cars and race them hard, race them smart and I feel like that if what happened last week, which we’ll talk about racing because that’s what we should be talking about, if the roles we’re reversed and the [my] car wrecked the [Johnson], I would have been hung.

Is Dale Earnhardt Jr. True Competitor Or Just Trapped Prisoner Of Family’s NASCAR Legacy?

August 6th, 2010

During his less than spectacular two and a half seasons competing for Hendrick Motorsports in the Sprint Cup Series, many have questioned whether Dale Earnhardt Jr. still has the drive to be a competitive force in NASCAR.

10 Dale Earnhardt Jr.jpgA just released New York Times magazine profile on Earnhardt would have one wondering if he is a man trapped in the sport of racing because of the amazing legacy of his late father.

For us, in a lot of ways, it reads as a sad portrait of a man. It’s hard not to feel some compassion for Earnhardt after reading it.

“I didn’t want to work for a living,” Earnhardt told writer Pat Jordan for the New York Times Magazine piece. “What the hell am I gonna do with my life as Dale Earnhardt’s son if I don’t race? I was a mechanic in Dad’s dealership at 18, and those were some of my happiest days.

Elliott Sadler’s Vicious Pocono Wreck Shows NASCAR’s Proactive Safety Efforts Still Direly Lacking

August 2nd, 2010

As long as the hazardous mess that is the Pocono Raceway remains unchanged, not a single soul in any role of power within NASCAR can say that safety in the sport is of any paramount concern to the sanctioning body.

Sprint Cup Series.jpgIt hardly takes someone educated in safety engineering to understand that having an earth mound wall covered by a steel barrier just feet from the track – jutting out oppositely to the flow of traffic on a high speed are of the racing surface – might just be a dangerous idea.

And yet how many years have NASCAR officials just looked past the area as a Pocono Raceway quirk?

New Hampshire Motor Speedway Could Be Payback Place For Sunday’s Lenox Industrial Tools 301

June 27th, 2010

LOUDON, N.H. – “Boys, have it.”

Sprint Cup Series.jpgThose were the words used by NASCAR vice president of competition Robin Pemberton in January when describing how the sanctioning body would be loosening the reigns on drivers in the Sprint Cup Series in the hopes of creating more exciting racing action in the division this season.

The philosophy from NASCAR was that allowing more self-policing by drivers on the track would make for more dramatic racing but keep the wildness in check. But it seems for some drivers in the garage the new mantra is “Boys, we’ve had enough of it.”
