Unstoppable: Tommy Barrett Jr. Keeps Up Domination In SK Light Modifieds At Stafford Motor Speedway

STAFFORD – The numbers just continue to get ridiculous from Tommy Barrett Jr. in the SK Light Modified division at Stafford Motor Speedway.

Thumbnail image for Tommy Barrett Jr Mug.jpgWhen Barrett got his first victory in the division on June 4, the 15-year old also became the youngest driver ever to win a feature in the history of the track.

About two months later and Barrett is tied for third on the all-time win list in the division.

Barrett, of Millis, Mass., drove away from the field in winning the 20-lap SK Light Modified feature Friday at Stafford Motor Speedway.

After Nasty Wreck Last Week, Late Model Victory Lane The Perfect Medicine For Michael Bennett At Stafford

STAFFORD – A week ago Michael Bennett watched as his Late Model taken off the track at Stafford Motor Speedway looking much closer to junkyard material than high performance racing vehicle.

Bennett, of Stafford, took the lead from Adam Gray following a lap six restart and then checked out from the field in easily winning the 30-lap Late Model feature Friday at Stafford Motor Speedway.

STAFFORD – Ok, sorry, you won’t be seeing any pictures of Michael Speeney or his Whelen Modified Tour car in this space.

Versus Sign Stafford WMT 8-6-10.jpgSpeeney, from Newtown, Pa., is set to make his Whelen Modified Tour debut in tonight’s Town Fair Tire 150 at Stafford Motor Speedway, but it seems there’s a no paparazzi allowed rule surrounding his organization.

Now we’ll say this, it’s not as if we’re walking around the pits sporting any monster lenses or any other $1,000 plus photography equipment. No, it’s just a simple Canon PowerShot here to get the job done.

Eric Berndt Fastest In Whelen Modified Tour Town Fair Tire 150 Practice At Stafford Motor Speedway

STAFFORD – On May 28 at Stafford Motor Speedway, Eric Berndt served notice that he’s prepared to compete for a Whelen Modified Tour victory at the half-mile oval.

Eric Berndt Eyes Stafford WMT 8-6-10.jpgBerndt, a part-timer on the Whelen Modified Tour, led a race high 101 laps in the TSI Harley-Davidson 125 at Stafford before settling for a sixth place finish in the event.

Berndt showed Friday afternoon that the speed he had that day hasn’t gone away.

Berndt, of Rocky Hill, was fastest in Whelen Modified Tour practice for tonight’s Town Fair Tire 150 at Stafford. Berndt set a fast lap of 18.366 seconds (98.007 mph) in the 90-minute practice session.

STAFFORD – With motor oil dripping off his forehead and a handful of mangled engine parts filling his hands, Joey Ferrigno begged for one more lap around the track.

Ferrigno in oil LeMons 2010.jpgFerrigno, 28, is usually a bit more tidy on Friday nights at Stafford Motor Speedway, where the East Hartford resident serves as the pace car driver for the track’s weekly Whelen All-American racing cards.

But last Sunday, Ferrigno was playing the role of heroic mechanic, frantically looking to get his team more competitive track time.

Dillon Moltz To Start 16th In ARCA Racing Series Debut Saturday At Pocono Raceway

STAFFORD – Stafford Motor Speedway Late Model division regular Dillon Moltz was 16th fastest in qualifying Friday for Saturday’s ARCA Racing Series Weis Markets 125 at Pocono Raceway.

Dillon Moltz SMS Pit Party 5-1-10.jpgMoltz, of Waterford, earned his chance to compete in the event after winning the inaugural Richard Petty’s Driver Search in April.

Moltz is the current points leader in the Late Model division at Stafford. He leads Ryan Posocco by 16 points going into tonight’s 30-lap feature. Moltz will not compete at Stafford tonight.

ARCA veteran Frank Kimmel set fast time around the 2.5-mile triangular Pocono layout with a lap of 54.108 seconds (166.334 mph).

Stafford Motor Speedway Late Model division regular Dillon Moltz finished 20th, one lap down from the leaders, in his ARCA Racing Series debut Saturday at Pocono Raceway.

Moltz, of Waterford, earned his chance to compete in the event after winning the inaugural Richard Petty’s Driver Search in April.

Moltz had been the Late Model division points leader at Stafford before this weekend, but after missing Friday’s 30-lap feature at the track, he fell to third place in the standings.

Woody Pitkat Runs Away With Fifth Late Model Victory Of The Season At Stafford Motor Speedway

STAFFORD – Woody Pitkat got past leader Scott Cook on a lap seven restart and never looked back in winning the 30-lap Late Model feature Friday at Stafford Motor Speedway.

Keith Rocco of Wallingford was second and Ryan Posocco of Stafford third.

“We’ve been struggling the last couple weeks and tonight we weren’t sure if we wanted to adjust the car because it was so good,” Pitkat said. “We decided to just leave it. We just needed to be a little tighter at the end but I think everybody had the same the problems.”

Long Distance Man: Frank Ruocco Wins Second Consecutive SK Modified 150 At Stafford Motor Speedway

STAFFORD – Patience has been the plan over the last few years that has made Frank Ruocco so successful in the CarQuest SK Modified 150 at Stafford Motor Speedway.

It was spin and win night for the Cheshire driver, as Ruocco rallied from an early crash to win the SK Modified 150 for the second consecutive year and third time in four years.

Ryan Preece of Berlin chased Ruocco to the line in second and Keith Rocco of Wallingford was third.

Late Model Points Leader Dillon Moltz To Skip Stafford Event To Compete In ARCA Race At Pocono Raceway

After two consecutive weeks of weather affected racing cards, officials at Stafford Motor Speedway are hoping they can dodge the rain drops Friday and get in a full show for the first time since July 9.

Dillon Moltz with Richard Petty.jpgBut it will be Stafford Speedway Late Model division points leader Dillon Moltz hoping somehow his division’s 30-lap feature gets cancelled.

The bright lights and attention of a nationally televised racing event are calling for Moltz this weekend, but because of that, he will miss Friday’s event at Stafford.

It could end up costing him his first Stafford Motor Speedway championship.

Moltz, of Waterford, will attempt to make his ARCA Racing Series debut in Saturday’s Weis Markets 125 at Pocono Raceway in Long Pond, Pa.
