Video View: Reactions After The Speedbowl Late Model Division Conflict Between Vin Esposito and Jason Palmer

WATERFORD – There was a slight chill in the air at the Waterford Speedbowl Saturday night, but the heat was turned up in the pits following the 30-lap Late Model division feature.

Speedbowl-Logo.jpgAfter using some contact to try to get around Vin Esposito for the lead during a four lap battle for the lead, Jason Palmer made contact with him and sent him spinning down the backstretch with 11 laps remaining.

Track officials immediately black flagged Palmer and put him to rear of the field, giving the lead to eventual race Staskowski.

Happy Days Are Here For Louie “The Smile” Bellisle In Waterford Speedbowl Mini Stock Division

WATERFORD – A junked car after the second week of the season left Louie Bellisle III and his Mini Stock team playing catch-up to the field trying to get a new ride up to the speed.

For the second consecutive week it was Bellisle, of Griswold, laughing all the way to victory lane in the 25-lap Mini Stock feature Saturday at the Waterford Speedbowl.

After A Week Away, Three-Time Defending Speedbowl Late Model Champion Bruce Thomas Jr. Back In The Field

WATERFORD – The missing man on the track at the Waterford Speedbowl on July 31 was one who has garnered so much of the attention at the facility since 2007.

Bruce Thomas Jr. with Glen 8-7-10.jpgThree-time defending Late Model division champion Bruce Thomas Jr. was a no-show for the division’s 30-lap feature last week.

But Thomas, who said he took the week off to regroup, is back this week to return to competition.

When Thomas wrecked on July 24 at the track it marked the fourth major accident of the year for his team.

Getting The Fireworks Started Early At The Waterford Speedbowl

WATERFORD – Fans of the Waterford Speedbowl didn’t have to wait until the features to see dramatics between two of the top two talents at the track Saturday.

Doug Coby Waterford 8-7-10.jpgThe drama began in one of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series SK Modified heats. After battling for a few laps at the rear of the field, the contact got a little bit more aggressive between Keith Rocco of Wallingford and Doug Coby of Milford.

Rocco is the nation’s NASCAR Whelen All-American Series points leader and has eight victories this year at Waterford. Coby returned to the track to compete full-time recently.

Bouncing Back: Walt Hovey Puts Tough Week In The Rearview With Street Stock Win At Waterford

WATERFORD – A week after suffering through an 11th place finish and a hard wreck, Waterford Speedbowl Street Stock division points leader Walt Hovey Jr. found on his return the best medicine for the pain of bad week.


Walt Hovey Jr.JPGHovey, of Chaplin, held off Norm Sears to win the 25-lap Street Stock feature Saturday at the Waterford Speedbowl.

“Last week was hard racing,” Hovey said. “Unnecessary contact is what I’ll say. The frame was bent pretty significantly. We worked on it every night this week until late hours.”

The victory allowed Hovey to extend his lead over second place Al Stone III to 50 points in the division standings.

Home Again: Tucker Reynolds Jr. Getting Back Up To Speed In An SK Modified At The Waterford Speedbowl

WATERFORD – Despite having a history of gaudy numbers behind the wheel of an SK Modified at the Waterford Speedbowl, Tucker Reynolds Jr. didn’t expect to set the competition on fire when he returned to the division after nearly 10 years away on July 3.

Tucker Reynolds Jr 7-17-10.jpg“Yeah, it’s like riding a bike, but sometimes when you get back on the bike you end up scraping your knees up a little bit at first,” Reynolds said.

The scrapes of return behind him, Reynolds, of Westbrook, is looking ready to return to a place at the Speedbowl he was very familiar with a decade ago: The SK Modified division podium.

Four Waterford Speedbowl Late Model Drivers Added To Invite List For ACT Invitational Testing At NHMS

The American Canadian Tour announced Thursday that four more drivers from the Late Model division at the Waterford Speedbowl have been invited to test at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in preparation for the second ACT Invitational at the 1.058-mile oval on Sept. 18.

ACT Invitational.jpgLast week ACT officials announced that Tim Jordan of Plainfield and Jeff Smith of Old Lyme would be invited to test at the track. ACT will hold two days of testing at New Hampshire Motor Speedway Aug. 17-18.

The full group of invitees will be split in two with each group getting one day of testing at the track.

Jeff Pearl Gets Second SK Modified Victory Of The Season At The Waterford; Second Place Diego Monahan DQ’ed

WATERFORD – Jeff Pearl inherited the lead with six laps remaining and then held off Diego Monahan on two late restarts to win the 35-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series SK Modified feature at the Waterford Speedbowl.

After finishing second on the track, Monahan, of Quaker Hill, was disqualified from the event.

Todd Ceravolo looked to have the car to beat, driving away from the field after taking the lead from Monahan with 15 laps to go, but with six laps remaining Ceravolo slowed off turn four and went to the infield with electrical issues.

Russ Stoehr Wins Brotherly Battle In Shane Hammond Memorial NEMA Midget Race At The Waterford Speedowl

WATERFORD – Russ Stoehr went by his brother Greg on a restart with 13 laps left and led the rest of the way to win the Northeastern Midget Association’s 37-lap Shane Hammond Memorial race Saturday at the Waterford Speedbowl.

Hammond Memorial Race Logo.jpgThe race was held in memory of former NEMA driver Shane Hammond. The 27-year old was killed during a race at Thompson International Speedway in April 2008.

“I can’t tell you how much it means to win this race,” said Russ Stoehr, of Lakeville, Mass. “Shane was a true competitor and a great friend. We miss him every day.”

Tim Jordan Back In Late Model Victory Lane Saturday At The Waterford Speedbowl

WATERFORD – Patience paid off with a trip to victory lane Saturday night for Tim Jordan at the Waterford Speedbowl.

Thumbnail image for AA Tim Jordan in car NHMS.jpgJordan bided his time early in the event and had all the car he needed late to win the 30-lap Late Model feature Saturday at the Waterford Speedbowl.

It was the third victory of the season for Jordan, of Plainfield, the division’s points leader.

Jeff Smith of Old Lyme was second and Richard Staskowski of Hope Valley, R.I. third.

Jordan, the 2006 Late Model champion at the track, laid back in the third place while Bertrand and Staskowski battled side-by-side for the lead during much of the first 10 laps.
